The Diyari language belongs to the Dieri people, and any use of material from this website in other publications, recordings, videos, or events should only be undertaken in consultation with the primary knowledge holders. For advice, please contact the Dieri Aboriginal Corporation Cultural Heritage Sub-committee, co-ordinated in 2023 by Michelle Warren. Note that this Sub-committee includes two representatives of Dieri Elders: Aunty Rene Warren, and Uncle Jeffrey Warren.
We are grateful to the South Australian Museum (SAM) for granting access to their archival deposits of Diyari materials, including the Reuther manuscript and other documents. Thanks are also due to the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) for allowing access to their archives, including the Scherer translation typescript. For comments and feedback on draft materials on this website we are grateful to Taryn Debney, Edward Garrett, Jeff Good, Philip Jones, Brooke Danielle Lillehaugen, David Nathan, Jan Scott, Clara Stockigt, and Tony Woodbury.
Peter Austin expresses immense appreciation to the people who have been teaching him Diyari since 1974: †Eileen Hannis, †Frieda Merrick, †Ben (‘Benno’) Murray, †Selma Thompson, †Leslie Russell, Michelle Warren, Reg Warren, Rene Warren, and †Rosa Warren.
The Reuther Dictionary project was carried out under a Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship awarded to Peter Austin for 2021-2024. This provided funds for research assistance (by Edward Garrett, and David Nathan), and travel and accommodation to visit the Diyari community in 2022, 2023 and 2024. We are very grateful for this financial support.
